Cowboys tickled pink after big win

The Cowboys extended their winning streak to four and we hosted Breast Cancer Network Australia in another successful night at the LGIAsuper Community Hub.

Founded in 1998, Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA) now boasts 120,000 members and is the nation’s peak organisation for Australians affected by breast cancer.

BCNA is committed to providing treatment and support for those suffering from the disease, as well as their carers. We were proud to host BCNA at the Hub and would like to thank them for sharing their knowledge with our Howdy Club members.

The ‘pretty in pink’ theme continued on-field, with the Cowboys sporting their special Women in League Round jerseys for the Round 20 clash with the New Zealand Warriors.

In a thrilling contest, two tries to speedster Javid Bowen ultimately proved the difference in a 24-12 Cowboys victory.

The Warriors were desperate for a win to keep their top 8 hopes alive and they received the perfect start with a try to second-rower Bunty Afoa off a sublime pass from Roger Tuivasa-Sheck.

Not to be outdone, LGIAsuper Player Ambassador Michael Morgan sparked the Cowboys into action. Running the ball on the last tackle, Morgan and Lachlan Coote combined to send Justin O’Neill in to score.

When Bowen crossed for his first try of the night off a Jake Granville grubber kick, the Cowboys appeared to have all the momentum but an error coming out of their own end saw the Warriors pounce through Simon Mannering.

An action-packed second half saw both teams come agonisingly close to scoring. Cowboys second rower Ethan Lowe finally broke the deadlock after a great offload from Kyle Feldt but the Warriors refused to give in. It took a 90m special from Bowen on the stroke of full-time to seal victory for the Cowboys who would be relieved to walk away from such a physical encounter with the two competition points.

The only thing more exciting than Bowen’s length of the field try was the return of the Michael Morgan face masks at the Hub!

Returning Howdy Club members were treated to the highly prized item while new sign-ups walked away with an exclusive Howdy Hat.

We’ll be handing out plenty of Cowboys and LGIAsuper merchandise when we return to 1300SMILES Stadium on Friday August 4 for the Cowboys-Storm clash.

LGIAsuper will be sponsoring the match so if you’re watching on TV, keep an eye out for us!

If you’re at the game, come say hi. We’ll be running a series of activities to celebrate the occasion as well as handing out information to anyone interested in joining our trusted and reliable super fund. Everyone is now welcome to become an LGIAsuper member!
