Hospital heroes and Howdy Club fun
A ‘hometown hero’ might have sealed the win for his side at 1300SMILES Stadium but it was the ‘hospital heroes’ from Ronald McDonald House North Queensland who won the hearts and minds of fans at the Cowboys-Broncos game on Friday night.
Ronald McDonald House North Queensland provides accommodation for families of seriously ill children who receive treatment at Townsville Hospital. Whether it’s a one night stay or much longer stint, the staff at Ronald McDonald House go above and beyond to provide a ‘home away from home’ for families whose regular residence is out of reach.
The LGIAsuper team were treated to a guided tour of the facility on Thursday afternoon and left thoroughly impressed with the friendly staff, fantastic amenities and extensive list of services offered to families in need.
While McDonald’s Australia covers the centre’s administrative costs, Ronald McDonald House relies heavily on the support of the local community and its volunteers. It was great to see so many smiling faces at the LGIAsuper Community Hub and our young Howdy Club members certainly made the most of the Ronald McDonald House face paint and hair colour corner!
Things were just as lively on-field with the Cowboys and Broncos delivering another all-time classic. Johnathan Thurston showed why he's a big match player, setting up the winning try for LGIAsuper Player Ambassador Michael Morgan with a magnificent flick pass during extra time.
The LGIAsuper Community Hub was proud to host Ronald McDonald House North Queensland and thrilled to witness such an extraordinary game of rugby league. Thanks to everyone for dropping in to say hi. We will see you all next season!
