Reading and play on display at the Hub

The LGIAsuper Community Hub was kept busy on the weekend with the Cowboys-Sharks match and the Cowboys Members Carnival attracting plenty of visitors.

It all kicked off on Saturday evening with Townsville CityLibraries joining us at the Hub.

Townsville CityLibraries run a series of programs, activities and services for people of all ages in the local community. Their team was on-hand to show the importance of reading and play for young developing minds.

‘Reading and play’ might have been the theme at the Hub but it was LGIAsuper Player Ambassador Michael Morgan who was ‘reading the play’ expertly for the Cowboys on-field.

The Queensland and Australian representative set up two tries and scored one of his own but it was not enough to prevent a Sharks victory, 26-16.

Veteran Sharks second rower Luke Lewis got the visitors off to the ideal start in the 5th minute with a classic ‘show and go’ before sending hooker Jayden Brailey in to score. Maloney converted before setting up the Sharks second try in the 11th minute with a neat step and short pass to Paul Gallen.

Morgan dragged the Cowboys back into the contest in the 23rd minute with a neatly placed kick that was pounced on by five-eighth Te Maire Martin. Ethan Lowe converted but the rest of the half belonged to the Sharks with Townsend and Holmes both taking advantage of some tired Cowboys defence to score before the break.

With a horror injury toll and 24-6 scoreline against them, the home side could have easily thrown in the towel but a 50m charge from powerhouse second rower Coen Hess against the run of play typified the Cowboys never-say-die attitude.

In a thrilling second half, the Sharks could only manage a solitary penalty goal while Lowe and Morgan scored four pointers for the Cowboys to reduce the final margin to 10 points.

It was an absorbing battle and Howdy Club members made plenty of noise thanks to this week’s special merchandise item, our LGIAsuper-Cowboys Happy Clappers.

Thanks to everyone who visited the Hub on Saturday and during Sunday’s Members Carnival, where fans rubbed shoulders with their favourite Cowboys players and new Howdy Club sign-ups took home their very own Howdy Hat.

The LGIAsuper Community Hub returns to 1300SMILES Stadium on Thursday 31 August for the highly anticipated Cowboys versus Broncos Round 26 clash. We hope to see you there!
