Upsets, Howdy Hats and a year to remember for the Cowboys
The 2017 NRL season is over and what a year it was! Check out our recap of Grand Final week, including some fantastic photos that featured on our social media channels.
Pride, passion and community drive Cowboys' success
When Paul Green took over as coach of the North Queensland Cowboys, his side had a reputation for struggling to win matches away from home.
For an organisation with more frequent flyer points than Britney Spears, the travel demands placed on the Cowboys seemed a valid excuse for losing. Not for Paul Green. In his eyes, there were no excuses. Compete hard, work for each other. Always put the team first.
This attitude proved the catalyst for North Queensland‘s first NRL Premiership in 2015. It’s what drove Cowboys’ stars Johnathan Thurston and Matt Scott to clean up the team’s dressing room after matches this year. They had plenty of practice, too. Both missed large chunks of the 2017 season due to injury. As a result, many wrote the Cowboys off. But the belief within remained. There would be no excuses.
With the whole North Queensland community behind them, the Cowboys defied the odds to reach the Grand Final from 8th position. A fantastic effort. It took a mighty Melbourne Storm side – featuring 3 all-time greats, to stop them.
Pride, passion and community are the reasons we’re proud to be Official Superannuation Partners of the North Queensland Cowboys.
Congratulations on a great season!
A ride to remember
From the first match of the season to the last, LGIAsuper was there to cheer on the Cowboys.
Thanks to everyone who came along to Lidcombe Station to pick up their Cowboys TRY sign. They were a big hit, as were our Howdy Hats which filled the Cowboys’ supporters bay at ANZ Stadium.
Well done to all Cowboys supporters who travelled far and wide to support their team. You definitely are the best fans in the NRL!
And the winner is …
Congratulations to the two winners in last week’s special LGIAsuper NRL Grand Final ticket competitions, Brad Perry and Neil Mitchell!
Brad won the social media competition which was run on Facebook, while Neil took home the prize in our LGIAsuper members’ competition.
Both men won 2 grandstand tickets each to the match which was won by the Melbourne Storm over the North Queensland Cowboys, 34-6.
The result didn’t go our way but the atmosphere on Grand Final day was electric! Check out our Facebook page for match-day pics and stay tuned for more competitions and updates.
