As you go through life’s challenges and milestones, you may want your insurance cover to keep pace with your changing situation.

Major life changes you could face include marriage or moving in together, divorce, a new child, a mortgage, or your partner’s death. Not having the right insurance cover when your life has changed could put you at financial risk.

With LGIAsuper, your insurance can change with you.

Increase your cover for life events

Some life events enable you to apply for increased insurance cover without having to go through the full underwriting process – i.e. you may not have to complete lengthy questionnaires and procedures.

If you are aged 59 years or younger, you can apply to increase your cover for the life events listed below.

  • Marriage or start of a de facto relationship.
  • Divorce or ending a de facto relationship.
  • Birth of your child or adoption of a child.
  • Death of your spouse or de facto partner.
  • Taking out a new mortgage to buy your primary residence.
  • Increasing an existing mortgage to renovate your primary residence.
  • New life events added to our insurance policies from 1 November 2020:
    • A dependent child is attending primary or secondary school for the first time.
    • First becoming eligible for a Centrelink carer’s allowance.
    • Ten years of continuous membership in LGIAsuper.
    • Milestone birthdays, reaching these ages: 30, 35, 40, 45 or 50 years.

If eligible, you can apply for two extra units of Death only cover, or two extra units of Death and Total and Permanent Disability (TPD) cover, or up to $2,000 per month in additional Income Protection cover.

We increased the eligibility age from 54 to 59 years on 1 November 2020.

You can apply for one life event increase every 12 months, up to a maximum of three events during your membership.
