Our Board

Our Board is responsible for managing LGIAsuper in the best interests of members. The team is made up of nine members with equal employer, member and independent representation (including an independent chair).

The LGIAsuper Trustee (ABN 94 085 088 484) is responsible for managing LGIAsuper in the best interests of members. The Trustee works closely with the Chief Executive Officer and executive team to ensure your financial future is looked after.

Board composition

From 1 July 2011 LGIAsuper (known then as LGsuper) merged with City Super and a transitional Board was in place until 30 June 2014 to allow continuity in oversight of the merger transition. Today, our Board is made up of nine members with equal employer, member and independent representation (including an independent chair). John Smith

Experience

John Smith commenced his role as an LGIAsuper director in December 2013. He is a qualified actuary with 30 years' experience providing technical and strategic advice to large superannuation funds and corporations. John is a former Director and Consulting Actuary with The Heron Partnership, and has served as Director, Executive Director and Senior Consulting Actuary for other organisations within the finance industry. He was Chair of the Superannuation Policy Committee for a major international conglomerate, holds a Bachelor of Arts (Statistics) and is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia.

Ronald Dewhurst

Experience

Ronald Dewhurst was appointed as an LGIAsuper director in June 2018, and has extensive experience in Board and senior executive roles in Australia and overseas. Ronald's former roles include Senior Executive Vice President, Legg Mason Inc, CEO of IOOF Holdings, Head of Americas, JP Morgan Investment Management, and Managing Director, JP Morgan Inc. He is a Fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australia (FINSIA).

Peter Kazacos, OAM

Role

Experience

Peter Kazacos became an LGIAsuper director in December 2016. He has over 40 years' experience in the IT industry and was a Chair on several boards including the Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA), CSIRO ISC Sector Advisory Council and Axxis Technology Group. Peter is a former member of the Australian Administration Services (AAS) Advisory Council and the founder and Managing Director of Kazacos Industries. He holds a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering and Bachelor of Science (Applied Maths, Computer Science).

Ray Burton PSM

Experience

Ray Burton PSM was appointed as a member representative director in July 2018. He is a current Director of the Local Government Managers Australia (Queensland) and has more than 40 years' experience in senior leadership positions across 12 different local governments. Ray holds a Masters of Business Administration, Graduate Diploma in Local Government Management, and Diplomas of Business (Local Government and Accounting). He was CEO at Townsville City Council from 2008—2016 and was awarded the Public Sector Professional of the Year (Queensland) in 2012. Ray is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and was awarded the Public Service Medal in 2015.

Cr Rosamund (Ros) Heit

Experience

Rosamund (Ros) Heit was appointed as a member representative director in July 2018. She is a Local Councillor at South Burnett Regional Council (SBRC) where she is responsible for the Finance, HR, and Information and Communications Technology portfolios and is a member of the Audit Committee. She is a member of a number of boards and holds Bachelor degrees in Business and Science, as well as a Diploma of Local Government for Elected Members. Ros was awarded the Queensland Rural, Regional and Remote Women’s Network (QRRRWN) Professional Woman of the Year 2018.

Jennifer Sanders

Experience

Jennifer Sanders was appointed as a member representative director in July 2018. She is the current President and Chair of Beaucare, which provides a broad range of community services. Jennifer is a Justice of the Peace (Qualified). She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree (majoring in Australian Studies), an LGAQ Diploma of Local Government (Planning), and a Diploma of Project Management. Jennifer has held senior positions on a number of committees and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD).

Cr Matthew Bourke

Experience

Cr Matthew Bourke was appointed as an LGIAsuper director in July 2016 and has been a Councillor for the ward of Jamboree since 2008. Matthew is well known for his contribution to the local community, specifically his flood recovery work where he received the National Emergency Medal for his involvement. Matthew is also on the Board of the Local Government Association of Queensland (LGAQ). Matthew is a Graduate member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, a member of the Lord Mayor’s Creative Advisory Trustee, and the Lord Mayor’s Inclusive Brisbane Trustee.

Cr Mark Jamieson

Experience

Cr Mark Jamieson was appointed as an LGIAsuper director in July 2018. He is the current Mayor at Sunshine Coast Regional Council and President of the Local Government Association of Queensland (LGAQ) Limited. Mark is a Patron of Sunnykids, the Beacon Foundation, the Friendship Force of the Sunshine Coast and the Sunshine Coast Sports Federation. Mark was the Chief Executive at Australian Publishing Network (APN) from 1981—2009 and is a former Director of the Sunshine Coast Helicopter Rescue Service.

Cr Cameron O'Neil

Experience

Cr Cameron O’Neil was appointed as an LGIAsuper director in October 2016. He is a current Councillor of the Maranoa Regional Council, a position he has held since 2012. Cameron has extensive experience on several Boards, as well as State and Federal Government Advisory Committees. He is a Policy Executive member of LGAQ and member of Commerce Roma. Cameron holds a Bachelor of Applied Science (Animal Studies).

Andrew Cormie

Role

Experience

Andrew was appointed as an advisor to the Board in 2017. He is the Investment Director for Eastspring Investments (Singapore). Andrew is a former Managing Director of JP Morgan Investment Management (London) and a former Director and founding Partner of Voyager Funds Management. He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration and is a Chartered Financial Analyst.

Mitchell Petrie

Experience

Mitchell was appointed as an advisor to the Board in 2017. He is an Independent Member of Brisbane City Council’s Audit Committee and Risk Management Committee, as well as an Independent Member and Chair of the UNESCO Oversight Advisory Committee. Mitchell is also the former Partner in Charge at KPMG Brisbane; Internal Audit, Risk and Control Services. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce and is a Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia.

Our executive team work closely with the LGIAsuper Trustee and all staff to look after the retirement savings of our members.

Chief Executive Officer

Kate Farrar

The LGIAsuper Board appointed Kate Chief Executive Officer in April 2018.

She is responsible for leading the ongoing change and transformation required to build on LGIAsuper’s success over the last 52 years.

Kate has 25 years’ experience in senior leadership positions. Prior to joining LGIAsuper she was Senior Implementation Leader at McKinsey & Company.

Previous roles include Managing Director of QEnergy and senior positions in the financial services industry at Barclays and Suncorp.

Kate has a Bachelor of Music (Honours) degree together with a Masters degree in Econometrics and Finance.

She is also a graduate of INSEAD’s Advanced Management Programme.

Kate is a Responsible Person under the Trustee’s RSE licence and a Responsible Manager under the AFS licence.

Chief Investment Officer

David Todd

David was appointed Chief Manager Investments in 2005. He served as CEO between July 2006 and April 2018, overseeing LGIAsuper’s transition to public offer status.

David's previous roles include General Manager Investments for Reinsurance Australia/Calliden (1994 to 2004), General Manager Treasury for TNT (1983 to 1994) and various accounting positions in Total, DuPont and ADC. David holds a Bachelor of Commerce and is a Certified Senior Treasury Professional (Finance and Treasury Association).

He is member of CPA Australia and the Australian Institute of Company Directors. David is a Responsible Person under the Registrable Superannuation Entities (RSE) licence.

Chief Financial Officer

Peter Gamin

Peter was appointed Chief Financial Officer in 2013. His key responsibility is to manage the financial operations of the LGIAsuper Trustee and LGIAsuper. Peter’s previous roles include Head of Corporate Finance, Head of Fund Finance and other senior finance positions at QIC (2003 to 2012), Group Financial Accountant at Queensland Cement Limited (1995 to 2003) and Manager at KPMG (1988 to 1995). Peter has a Bachelor of Business and a Master of Commerce. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, an Associate of Governance Institute of Australia, a Certified Finance and Treasury Professional and Graduate of the Institute of Company Directors. Peter is a Responsible Person under the LGIAsuper Trustee RSE licence.

Chief Operating Officer

Eleanor Noonan

Eleanor was appointed Chief Operating Officer in July 2018. She is responsible for optimising technology-enabled superannuation administration services and insurance and claims management for members and employers. Her role also includes organisational health and performance, and training, technical and quality assurance. Eleanor is committed to ensuring LGIAsuper consistently deliver highest quality services for members.  

Prior to her appointment, Eleanor headed LGIAsuper’s human resources function and most recently, served as Chief of People and Culture. Eleanor has successfully led large business transformation and cultural change programs, including driving the delivery of significant technology implementation projects and business improvement activities. She has also held a number of operational management roles in a number of key local government roles. Eleanor holds a Master of Business qualification from the University of Queensland and is a Responsible Person under the LGIAsuper Trustee RSE licence.

Chief of Member Advice

Garnett Hollier

Garnett was appointed Chief of Member Advice in July 2018.

His responsibilities include oversight of the provision of personal financial advice to current and prospective members, product development, and strategy.

Garnett is passionate about helping members explore their financial options and obtain the advice they need.
 
Prior to his appointment to an executive-level position, Garnett developed and headed LGIAsuper’s financial advice service. Before joining LGIAsuper, Garnett was a Principal at Mercer.
 
Garnett’s financial services career spans more than 20 years across a range of areas including Chartered Accounting and Financial Advice.
 
Garnett holds a Bachelor of Business (Accounting), a Graduate Diploma in Accounting, a Diploma in Financial Advising, is a member of CA Australia New Zealand, the Financial Planning Association, and the Fund Executive Association Limited.
 
Garnett is a Responsible Manager under the LGIAsuper Trustee’s AFS licence and a Responsible Person under the Trustee’s RSE licence.

Chief Growth Officer

Andrea Peters

Andrea was appointed Chief Growth Officer in October 2018.  She is responsible for implementing LGIAsuper’s growth strategy and overseeing the fund’s marketing, sales and member services functions.  Andrea will explore key partnership opportunities that benefit both the fund and its valued members. 

Andrea has more than 20 years’ experience in the financial services industry. Her previous experience leadership roles include JPMorgan Chase in New York, Citi in New York and Sydney and the Commonwealth Bank, Westpac, Equifax and Vodafone.  Andrea holds a Bachelor of Business degree in Marketing from Boston University.

Andrea is a Responsible Person under the Trustee’s RSE licence.

Chief Technology Officer

Ivan Ortiz

Ivan was appointed Chief Technology Officer in December 2018.

He is responsible for providing strategic direction to all technology teams and delivering innovative, fit-for-purpose technology solutions that deliver real value to LGIAsuper’s valued members.

Prior to joining LGIAsuper, Ivan spent three years as Head of Technology at UBET. He quickly established himself as one of Brisbane’s most innovative and influential IT leaders, earning selection in the CIO50 list.

Ivan holds a Master of Technology Management (E-business) from the University of Queensland, a Bachelor of Engineering (Electronics and Telecomm) from the Monterrey Institute of Technology, and a Diploma of Project Management from the Australian Institute of Management.

As a leader, Ivan believes in fostering an environment where learning and creativity is promoted, and hard work rewarded.
