Garnett joined a panel of industry experts to answer the question ‘Is the super system broken?’

The scheduled increase in the Superannuation Guarantee to 12% was a key topic discussed by the panel. Garnett was able to refer to the retirement outcomes enjoyed by LGIAsuper members, many of whom have received 12% or higher employer contributions via their local government employer. He also highlighted LGIAsuper’s members-first approach.

‘LGIAsuper is committed to providing a range of member services across face to face, phone, and digital channels to help our members navigate the superannuation system and achieve financial security in retirement.’

Garnett said he doesn’t think the super system is ‘broken’ but there is definitely room for improvement.

‘Those who aspire to be financially secure in retirement cannot simply rely on the age pension and Superannuation Guarantee contributions for peace of mind. Members who engage with the system and seek financial advice can maximise their superannuation savings with the resources they have.’
