Former Suncorp Super members can take comfort that the recent move to Brighter Super has been a positive one for their investment.

Following the transition to Brighter Super at the end of May 2023, you’re now with a fund that applies a similar investment philosophy to the one you were used to with Suncorp Super, but with a core focus on investing for superannuation and the benefit of a bigger investment pool.

Brighter Super’s Chief Investment Officer, Mark Rider, leads a team of investment specialists dedicated to delivering exceptional performance outcomes.

“Former Suncorp Super members will benefit from having their super money invested in a larger pool, with the associated economies of scale this provides, as well as the skills and experience of an expanded investment team,” says Mark.

“For example, our in-house team includes dedicated asset class managers as well as specialist advisers on key performance contributors like risk modelling and sustainable investing.”

“The successful amalgamation of our funds has given us a unique opportunity to reconfigure our investments to ensure that we’re delivering the best possible outcomes and future security for our members,” says Mark.

Our investment philosophy

Brighter Super’s approach to investing is about growing our members’ super balances while providing consistent returns. This means we want your investment to grow when markets are performing strongly, and reduce the impact when markets start to fall.

Members can choose from a wide range of investment options, from highly secure to those carrying higher risk and focused on long-term growth. Our range includes single asset class options, such as cash or Australian shares, and ready-made options which invest across a range of asset classes.

Mark and his team have a deep understanding of how important it is to protect members’ investments.

“Each of our ready-made investment options offers the benefits of our focused and strategically chosen investments,” says Mark.

“And we’re uniquely positioned to find and capitalise on these investments through a set of guiding investment principles.”

Our guiding principles

  • Our focus is on members’ best financial interests, which involves looking through short-term volatility to generate the long-term returns our members need to achieve their best possible retirement outcomes.
  • We maintain genuinely diversified portfolios, embracing investment risk efficiently where we believe it best delivers returns.
  • We carefully consider fees and costs when selecting and implementing investment strategies, to ensure that every dollar our members invest counts.
  • We’re committed to a responsible and sustainable approach, and consider environmental, social and governance factors when making decisions about our investment managers.

Of course, these are all just words without measurable results, but Brighter Super has an outstanding track record when it comes to investment.

For 2023, Money magazine judged Brighter Super's MySuper investment option to be the ‘Best-Value MySuper Product’.

And SuperRatings has awarded Brighter Super a Platinum rating for the fifteenth year in a row, for both the MyChoice super and Pension categories, and for the tenth year in a row for MySuper¹
